Worked examples

Known inputs. Checkable results. Try one without entering personal details.

  1. A shared traditional group

    Input
First sign: Rat · second sign: Dragon
    Expected result
    Traditional category: same harmony group

Rat and Dragon belong to the same traditional trine. This is a symbolic classification, not a relationship score or an assessment of two people.

  2. An opposing pair

    Input
First sign: Rat · second sign: Horse
    Expected result
    Traditional category: opposing pair

The lookup places Rat and Horse opposite one another. Symbolic tension does not determine an outcome; values and communication are not measured here.

  3. Two of the same sign

    Input
First sign: Dragon · second sign: Dragon
    Expected result
    Traditional category: dynamic pairing

Sharing an animal does not place two signs in a distinct-sign trine. This tool uses its general interpretation rather than inventing a percentage.

The selected grouping is not evidence about personality or relationship outcomes.

How this is calculated

This limited lookup groups signs four positions apart into three-sign groups and signs six positions apart into opposing pairs. All other combinations use an editorial label; identical signs receive a same-sign explanation. It does not implement every traditional pairing system.

What the reference does—and does not—establish

The Hong Kong Observatory’s twelve-animal reference documents the cycle’s order. It does not validate relationship scores, the discussion prompts here, or a single universal compatibility method.

Our lookup is deliberately limited to the four three-sign groups and six opposite-position pairs described in the method. “Dynamic” is our label for combinations outside those sets; it is not a traditional third category. The suggestions below a result are editorial prompts, not evidence of a pair’s likely strengths or difficulties.

For the broader calendar context, read how the twelve-year cycle works and the zodiac race story. A narrative about the animals does not establish compatibility between people.

Frequently asked questions

Does compatibility predict a relationship?
No. The lookup does not assess people. The discussion prompts are editorial suggestions, not traditional personality findings or predictions.
